PHP Fatal error: Unparenthesized

I don't have a clue! I just installed it a week ago so it's the latest version. I think it's 1.7 something.

I verified it's Providence 1.7. The server is Debian 6.1.94-1 (2024-06-21) if that matters at all.

I am thinking that the Providence files are not compatible with the version of PHP I am running. So much for following the documentation.

I keep monkeying with it. I got past those errors and now it is throwing a fatal error on: PHP Fatal error: Cannot declare class Attribute, because the name is already in use in /var/www/html/ca/app/lib/Attributes/Attribute.php on line 70

Not understanding what's up with that.

My assumption is that it's running the webserver on php8, even if the command line says it's using php7.4 (assuming you tried php --version) I don't know how to get Apache to change versions, but in nginx you make sure it's pointing to the right php-fpm version in config.

monica I believe you're right about this. I am running Debian with Apache. I have no idea how to change that but I will research it today. There also seems to be a newer version of Providence available that I didn't know about. Going to chase both of these options. I've only got about 7 more days to get this working.

With PHP 7.4.33, you should install CA 1.7.17 (not 1.7). It's here:

shoffman if you installed via git, then git checkout dev/php8 will give you the php8 compatible version.
If you didn't install via git, download it from https://github.com/collectiveaccess/providence/archive/refs/heads/dev/php8.zip

I have uninstalled and purged all of the PHP and now only have 7.4 installed. I have confirmed that I have Providence 1.7.17 installed as well. When I navigate to the server IP I get the raw text from the php.ini file but if I navigate to the server IP address/ca I get "cannot be found". Still plugging away at this but now I am trying to just get the web site to come up in the browser.

I think I have everything but how do I get the web site to come up in the browser now. If I navigate to the servers IP address I get this:

It's the PHP code but no web site. If I put the server IP address/ca in the browser I get the generic "cannot be found" message in the browser.

I wonder if I should just reinstall everything? I just don't know how to troubleshoot this thing.

If you are getting the PHP code, then Apache mod_php isn't installed/set up correctly. It's not interpreting the PHP into HTML for the web browser.

monica Do you know of any very detailed documentation I could look at to get this going? I am not a php programmer unfortunately. I have completely reinstalled everything and getting the same thing. Thank you.

I GOT IT!!! There's all kinds of errors and messages but it's working. I did: sudo a2enmod php7.4 and rebooted the damn server. Now at least I have messages and things it's telling me to fix.

I am not able to add a picture but I have all of the messages cleared now. I just have a "Your database is out-of-date. Please install all schema migrations starting with migration #124." It has a "click here" link to fix it but if I click that it just throws an error. I am not getting the log in screen.

This in in the collective access log over and over again: ERROR --> DatabaseException: Can't create table providence.ca_editor_uis_x_roles (errno: 150 "Foreign key constraint is incorrectly formed")

I guess all the work I did the other day to migrate the data is not good?
