Viewing lots as "Researcher" (Providence 2.0.9)

Hello - I am an administrator viewing Providence 2.0.9 as a Researcher (testing it to begin letting other users into our system), and I am unable to view lots in the left-hand sidebar (i.e. "Part of lot: [Accession Number]"). Viewing it results in "Something went wrong. There was an uncaught fatal error. Please contact your system administrator and check the CollectiveAccess log files."

The logs read "ApplicationException: Invalid controller path" and "ApplicationException: Access denied"

I checked "Manage -> Access Control" and "Manage -> Administration -> User Interfaces" and permissions appear to be appropriately set for the Researcher role. I also thought it might be related to setting the "Access" to "Accessible to Public" as is possible for Objects (under "Admin Info") but I do not see that option when creating a new Lot.

Any help would be appreciated.

webchickbot Do you have type or item-based access control enabled? If so there may be a permission issue. For type-based access, check that at least one role allocated to your "researcher" has read or read/write access to the relevant lot types.

If you are not using type or item-based access then I'd check that the role you have has access to all metadata elements in the lot record. Edit the relevant role(s) and check that all lot fields are have at least (read) access granted.

Hi Seth —

In app.conf I see:
ca_object_lots_dont_do_item_level_access_control = 0

The researcher role (which is only supposed to be able to search and view, not edit) appears to have read/edit access across the board for all metadata elements. Could that be causing a problem? Shouldn't it be "Read-only access"?

I can browse through "lots" fine, but when I view a specific object and click on "Part of lot: 2026-035" in the left hand nav (see screenshot), this is where it throws the error. ![

We use the lot page to link to gift forms, so I was hoping it would work in the Providence researcher view.

Here is another error message regarding the problem:

"Trying to access array offset on null [/root/providence/app/models/ca_bundle_displays.php:854]"

I checked the chmod permissions on that file (and its directories) and it is 755.

Any ideas? This is a relatively new install of Providence 2.0.9 (October 2025) and no administrative changes (besides toggling settings to troubleshoot this issue) have been made to "access control" or user roles so it represents a clean default install. PHP Version is 8.3.30.
