CA 2.0.9 Providence Tileviewer image partially blurred

CollectiveAccess version 2.0.9
We upgraded from ca 1.8 recently.
Now viewing the images (media) with TileViewer shows images that are partially sharp and partially blurred.
With the previous version there were no issues.
I did use caUtils to reprocess_media (several times) and the issue also occurs on fresh newly uploaded images.
I did try to switch to another viewer but then I get no image at all (both with Mirador and UniversalViewer).
UniversalViewer shows a message: Unable to load Tilesource.
It seems to try and load the tiles using IIIF service ( http://***/service.php/IIIF/representation:61:1/full/!512,512/0/default.jpg)
If I try to access the IIIF service IIIF service returns "Not logged in" even for public access items.

Are you really using http:// urls? Not https?

I am using https. The http://url is where UniversalViewer is looking for the tiles.

I have set the viewer back to TileViewer, cleared the cache, reprocessed media, rebuild search and sort values and somehow the images are loading properly for now, also for new images.
It is almost like something got stuck and popped loose after changing viewers.
