Upgrade and migration support

We have taken over support for a client who has CollectiveAccess on-premises.
README.md shows it is version 1.4 and the CA server is Ubuntu 14.0.4. The host server it is on is over 10 years old.
We would like to build a new host/VM and move the CA instance to the new host/VM. One of the main questions is that there is another Ubuntu server that is an SMB file share for the Windows devices in the environment. We want to make sure that there are no links to files or folders on that server before moving the CA installation to a new host/VM. Do we look at the conf files and where would we look into those to verify if there are any links to external file repositories?

I would also check for any symbolic links. It is common to make the media directory be a symbolic link to somewhere else.

Hi,
You should check the following files that could contain references/path/URL to other servers, for providence directory and pawtucket directory:

setup.php
app/conf/global.conf
app/conf/file_volumes.conf
app/conf/media_volumes.conf
app/conf/authentication.conf
app/conf/synchronization.conf

and also the same files in app/conf/local/
(I'm not sure all of them exist in the version 1.4. Check other *.conf files also...)

Also look in the themes directory: there could be a custom theme containing its own conf/*.conf files.
The media directory could be somewhere other than the providence directory, and the same goes for app/tmp which could be somewhere else, such as on a scratch disk.
As said Brucek, be aware that local directories (media or tmp) could be linked to elsewhere...

I appreciate the assistance. I will check these this morning and update the post. My apologies, but I have never worked with Collective Access before.
