Import to update only one element of preferred labels

If I want to update ca_entities.preferred_labels.forename why does the attached mapping delete all the other preferred labels elements (e.g. surname, displayname). How do you isolate it to only update the forename?

I was hoping that the displaynameFormat would update the forename and then adjust the displayname as specified

I should note that when I update any other field that is not a preferred label, it updates only that one field and leaves everything else alone

The sections of a preferred label is similar to how a container works. If you were to update an element in a container it might just do the same thing.

Try changing 'merge_on_idno_with_replace' with 'merge_on_idno', it may or may not help.

I also don't think the displaynameFormat would work, as the carret '^' symbol would be referencing columns in source data. Try using the format: prefixForenameMiddlenameSurnameSuffix instead

Thanks for the reply.
I put a value for the group column but it didn't help and neither did changing it to just "merge_on_idno"

I still need to figure out this import issue but according to this you can use the carets for displaynameFormat. Prefix and suffix was not in the predefined options https://providence.readthedocs.io/en/latest/import/mappings/splitters.html#displaynameformat

I don't know for sure on the displaynameFormat for the settings.

However for your update issue, I think you will need to include the other names in the mapping. I'm 95% sure that you can't edit only one element in a label through a mapping. I am prepared to be corrected though.
