providence install fails with Uncaught DatabaseException: 1146 in mysqli.php:358

hi all,

setting up a test server to try out the providence /dev/php8 branch and got hung up on the install page. tried running sudo ./caUtils install --profile-name=cdwalite.xml --admin-email="test@test.com" and got this fatal php error:

using some new versions just to see what would happen so maybe that's the problem?

seemed too much like a me problem to make a github issue. any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Might be an elastic search issue. Last I knew only tested up to version 7.
Try disabling elasticsearch and try again. If it works then you might need to downgrade ElasticSearch

Just had a quick look at the conf help text on this.

Search engine using ElasticSearch versions 5, 6 or 7 for indexing and query. To use this engine you must have a functioning
ElasticSearch installation, a version-appropriate PHP-Elastic client installed, and the correct version set in the
search.conf configuration file. (See https://www.elastic.co for more information on ElasticSearch). By default the version 7
PHP-Elastic client is installed. To install a different version modify the composer.json file and re-run composer.

So if you update the composer.json and search.conf to use elasticsearch 8, then it might be ok?

1146 means a table is missing. What's going on is it's trying to write to a table before it exists. Configure it to use SqlSearch2 while installing, then switch to Elastic after the install is complete.

We've done absolutely no testing with ElasticSearch 8, so that might be a problem, but it's not this problem. I'd stick with SqlSearch2 for now.

thank you both, going back to search_engine_plugin = SqlSearch2 did the trick.
