Error when upgrading to mysql 8

Server Ubuntu 22.04 Providence 1.7.8 schema 158 Last change log id 61879 (was mysql ver 5.7)

Just upgraded my server from Ubuntu 18.04 to 22.04 and I can access my Providence dashboard but when I try to use any of the browse functions I get the following error - I have no idea which line 1 the error is referring to and would appreciates some help. The rest of Providence seems to be functioning ok. I would like to try and fix this before attempting to remove mysql 8 and re-installing mysql 5.7 to see if this solves the problem.

The GitHub page for that release says it's not tested on MySQL 8. I suggest you upgrade to the newest version of 1.7.17

This should work with MySQL 8, plus the security benefit you'll get from it.

You'll need to run the latest 1.7 release with MySQL 8. 1.7.8 predates MySQL 8.

I have tried to upgrade to providence 1.7.17 using the following method.

in my HTML folder created a new directory providence2
Extracted 1.7.17 to this folder.
Copied my setup.php from 1.7.8 to 1.7.17
Copied my app.conf, Print Templates and media folders from 1.7.8 to 1.7.17
Checked permissions

When trying to access my providence2 instance I get the following error
Configuration files are missing for hostname '192.168.0.xxx'!
Please check the CA_BASE_DIR configuration setting in your setup.php file.
I have looked in the new setup.php-dist and my copy of setup.php from 1.7.8 and do not see any CA_BASE_DIR configuration setting.
What have I done wrong ??

Ok I went through the process again and now I can log into providence, something must have gone wrong when extracting 1.7.17 or when copying files from old instance of providence to the new version.
