I use different numbering systems for my object and my lots. For specific reasons, my object gets a long label/code (one out of OBJ, MUS, RSC, GENB).(one out of four letters). (4 digit year), (number). In contrast, my lots just get LOT.(year).(number). This is a little bit of an issue when I try to go through the create new object option on the LOT page. Indeed, when I do this the first three fields of the code for the new object are prefilled with the first three fields of the lot, so I always have to think of fixing those fields. This is manageable (I have been doing this for a while now), but I was wondering if it might not be possible to pre-fill the first two fields with the drop-down menu with the options that objects have, while the third field would be the year of the lot. How to even control creating a new object through the lot menu? any pointers are welcome.
Along the same lines, historically many of our items have codes that end with a field that is not just a number, but a number followed by a letter or a range of letters, like 78a or 287a-e. For now, I have set this field to serial and then just added the letter. Collectiveaccess is fine with that, although I do get an error message. Just wondering If there perhaps is a way to set a field to a number + one letter (78a) or a range of letters (287a-e) that does not create a warning/error?
Thanks,
Eisso
