Unwanted semicolon appearing

As I understand it, the following should produce no results on the web page unless there is content in the description field. When there is none, the description header and a semi-colon always appear anyway. See oval highlighted area in attached image.

You may have multiple values in that field with spaces.

Thanks for the responsiveness, Seth. The field is blank in the database, and on the data entry form. I can't see where it would be getting anything. Also, I am getting the same problem with dates, which do have multiple entries. See attached image.

Hi,

Check something: when you edit this object, do you have multiple "description" fields with the same locale (English, for example)? (Even if these "description" fields are empty)

If yes: try to remove these "description" fields (by clicking the ⊗, save, empty the cache directory, and try again.

Thanks for your response, Darrigan. No. There is one description field only. There is a secondary Note field for conservation comments, but the description field is the only one that has rich text formatting. I have this same semi-colon problem with the date fields, as shown in the image above. I have tried so many things, and still that semi-colon just won't go away.

Solved it. The semi-colon was being produced by this code:

However, the semi-colon was a result of the Source line being empty. We will not need that function so I deleted the Source line and the semi-colon went away.

@Alternon Hello,

By "deleted the Source line" you mean you removed the metadata sub-element "Source" from the "Description" metadata element?

For what I can tell, "Description" is composed of two sub-elements: "Text" and "Source". When entering values, it doesn't matter if "Source" is empty or filled: in Pawtucket the semicolon will always appear following the description; if a "Source" is provided, there won't be a space between the semicolon and the data provided in the "Source" sub-element field. That semicolon is certainly annoying.

The metadata element .description has a setting named "Value delimiter" set to ;. I had expected this would separate multiple ca_objects.description entries in Pawtucket, but changing it to - or , will make no changes.

do you have a container with sub elements? if you only want description to show and not source, then refer directly to that sub element not the parent.

carlosTF No, I mean what @darrigan has said, call only the element you want and display it the way you want it. The Semi-colon is delimiting the text and source, not multiple containers of 'description'. You need to refer directly to the field inside the description container you want to display.

In my preferences > Developer, turn on 'show bundle codes', that way you see the code you need directly in the editor and just click on it to copy it.

The annoying semicolon makes me think that if, in the object sheet, there are several times a description field, even if the other description fields are empty, the fields are displayed in Pawtucket with a separator semicolon by default.
