GIF Files in Pawtucket

Is anyone using GIF files in their Pawtucket installation? We thought it might be neat to make GIFs for stereo cards to show a 3D image, or to show iridescence on rocks and minerals...

According to the wiki, GIF files are supported (https://docs.collectiveaccess.org/wiki/Supported_Media_File_Formats)

I am able to upload a GIF in Providence, but when I go to view it in Pawtucket, it doesn't display correctly. For example (https://www.grpmcollections.org/Detail/objects/159791#) The 4th thumbnail is the GIF.

The GIFs are being converted to JPEG, which means everything after the first frame is thrown away. You'd have to configure it to show the originally uploaded file to get the animation. That means adding a separate entry for GIFs in media_display.conf

Have you followed the way given by Seth? I am looking into using animated GIFs in my representations as well.

Yes, in some case, I would like to use animated GIF.
It is because I make some 360° views of objects, and one easy way to export them is an animated GIF.
Another possibility is to export to mp4 movie, but it shows a play button ▶️ which I would like to avoid.

I think I managed to modify the media_display.conf file because it is indeed the animated GIF that is displayed when you click on the 2nd thumbnail, here:

In this example, the GIF is a concatenation of 36 images (10° angle per image).
(The 3rd thumbnail is a mp4 video demonstration of the object.)
