Define which title field to use for displaying name?

How can I define which metadata element is used as the name displayed in the providence GUI?For example:I need to have a complex type (container) for certain objects.Now, when I add a new object its title is always displayed as "[BLANK]" :(In this setup, I cannot use the default title element in order to adhere to the EN15907 standard.Thank you very much in advance.

Hi peter_b,

You could try setting ca_objects_dont_use_labels = 0 in your our app.conf file and see if that's a better solution for you.

By default the system will alway use preferred_labels as the field from which to display quicksearch results, thumbnail captions, etc.  You could also use the preferred_labels field in tandem with your custom title field.

Thanks Sophie :)The way I understand the comment for "ca_objects_dont_use_labels" in app.conf, I guess that would disable usage of object labels in the web-UI alltogether?Using "preferred_labels" in tandem to a custom title field might not have the right behavior:In EN15907, it's possible to add multiple titles - each with additional metadata, belonging to that title.Would it therefore be possible to do the following:

Remove the default "preferred_labels" metadata element

Add a new text field to a container, setting its ElementCode to "preferred_labels"

<p>If Providence goes by ElementCode, might this work?</p>

Hi peter_b,

As preferred_labels is an intrinsic element, this will not work.  Using preferred_labels in tandem with your custom element will allow you to name your records so that a label is available for use in the UI, such as in captions for thumbnails and in the inspector window, even as your custom metadata is used for proper cataloguing.
