How does the 'Update Installation Profile' feature work?

Hi!

I a client with an existing instance of Providence, r1.6.3, that would like to revise some of their object metadata fields. This may involve moving fields currently in containers out on their own, or the reverse, consolidating several metadata individual fields into a single container. We may also add new lists and convert exisitng fields from text to drop down lists.

Are such actions possible with Update Installation Profile?

Hi BB,

Is there "live" data in the existing instance? If so, simply updating the profile isn't going to work for you, as the data will be lost for those fields you change structurally (i.e. change text to list, or container to non-container). The best approach would be to set up a new CollectiveAccess instance reflecting the desired changes, and create an import mapping to migrate the data.
