Hello!

Long story short - I try! :)

I installed all the recommended external applications for Windows (except GMagick php extension, which I tried couple of times and never managed to get it right).

You can see a screenshot of my Configuration Check in the attached file.

So now I am at testing the import of media (png, jpg, gif, tif, pdf) using Import > Media and I got the error message "Unknown file type not accepted by media".

Then I "turned off" every one of the image processors to try them one at a time (except GD that was always "on" since it was already installed by default).

So here are the results:

-> Both GraphicsMagick and ImageMagicks don't work for any of the files: I get the message "Unknown file type not accepted by media" for all of them.

-> Working with GD only, I can import gif, jpg, png and pdf (but no tif). Images are same quality as originals.

-> When Imagick takes priority, I can successfully import all the files. However, the quality of the images is altered and very pale/low contrast (see attached example).

In both cases that successfully imported PDF, I can't open, see or download the PDF from Collective Access. It shows a PDF file icon and it says the page requested is not working.

I did some tests by leaving Phantom and wkhtmltopdf take priority over domPDF one at a time and it didn't change anything.

Do you have hints on how to have good quality pictures with Imagick (or make another application works) and also make PDF works properly?

Getting the various media back-ends to work on Windows is always a challenge. With regard to your questions:

1. If the GraphicsMagick and ImageMagick plugins aren't working then I'd wonder if your installs are really working. You should verify that they're working by running a conversion on the Windows command line. That's literally what those plugins are doing. If you can run conversions by hand, then the issue is likely a permissions issue, since the web server is running those commands with a different user and environment than you are.

2. What version of ImageMagick are you running with Imagick? Some versions of ImageMagick have significant bugs relating to gamma, which can result in images that are too light or too dark. Make sure you are using a recent version of ImageMagick. You might also want to try a build of ImageMagick that incorporates color management (eg. LCMS).

3. With PDFs, what happens exactly when you click on the icon. What is the error? Also, do you have Ghostscript installed and properly configured on your server?

Hi, thanks for your quick reply!!

1. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled both GraphicsMagick and ImageMagick. I tested both in the command line and they were working. Then I tried an import in CA one at a time, it was not working for any kind of files at first.

I tested both one at a time about 30 minutes later and it worked!! for both of them with good quality pictures and for all type of files (except PDF).

Then later, tried to import again to make sure everything was still working before spreading the good news: nothing worked, unknown file type again - however the command line works properly for both and the apache log record different errors than yesterday. I totally have no idea what I do wrong (I obviously do something wrong lol), so tomorrow I will uninstall and reinstall all of the image and pdf external applications again and make more tests.

Which one would you recommend between GraphicsMagick and ImageMagick if I can't make Imagick work properly?

2. I use ImageMagick 7.0.2, I will look if there is a more recent one.

3. I thought I had Ghostscript properly installed as well, but I doubt of everything now so I will try and reinstall it tomorrow. Attached are two examples of what I see when I successfully import a PDF with Imagick.

Will post again if I get different results tomorrow.

I'd use GraphicsMagick and, if possible, gmagick over ImageMagick. GraphicsMagick is generally more reliable and quite a bit faster.

I just reinstalled GhostScript -only- and it is working via the command line.

I can import a PDF in CA but can't see a preview of it. Just to confirm, should I be able to see a preview at this point? Do I need another application to support it with GhostScript?

I installed the executable of ImageMagick (ImageMagick-7.0.2-5-Q16-x64-dll.exe), which includes ffmpeg and dcraw executables. ImageMagick works in command prompt.

I am able to import PNG, JPG, GIF and TIFF, but the Unknown type message shows up for PDF. Still not able to see the preview of the PDF I successfully imported earlier today. There are no error messages in the Apache log file that are PDF related.

Spamming the thread is not my intention lol, as I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong I thought sharing the results step by step in case an idea would pop in someone's mind. Configuration Check attached.

Just installed GraphicsMagick (GraphicsMagick-1.3.24-Q16-win64-dll.exe) and it works well in command prompt.

I modified the paths in external_applications.conf in order to only use GhostScript and GraphicsMagick in CA.

I can't import any file anymore in CA. The Apache log file says that my path to GraphicsMagick is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file, which thing doesn't happen in command prompt when I use GraphicsMagick myself. phpinfo shows my paths are all ok.

So I don't know :/

I'm guessing it's a permissions issue. Without looking at the server I can't really say much more.

Hello!

I gave up on GraphicsMagick. The permissions seemed all administrator and after reinstalling I still didn't find the problem.

So far, I can only make ImageMagick to import .JPG & JPEG, .PNG, .GIF, .TIF & TIFF of good quality. If disabled for the import of PDF, I can import PDF with GD.

However, once imported, I can't preview/open/download them (still like the screenshots of July 27 above).

I can't make GhostScript work with CA and went through all the discussions I could find. From what I understand, GhostScript doesn't work with the Windows version of CA.

I have PDFWand, PDFToText, PhantomJS, domPDF and wkhtmltopdf, it does not change from one to another.

Can't export Reports either so far in any format, but didn't test that part very deeply yet.

Hi,

Actually GD has nothing to do with PDF import. ImageMagick is used to resize PDF previews coming out of Ghostscript though, so either it's a problem with that or ImageMagick is trying to grab PDFs. You might want to open up your ImageMagick delegates configuration file and remove all entries that pertain to PDFs. That sometimes can help.
