GraphicsMagick Installation - Mac OS

I downloaded GraphicsMagick-1.3.24 and ran ./configure in terminal. I get the error message

"configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH"Per their instructions, I then tried  ./configure CC=c99 CFLAGS=-O2 LIBS=-lposix

"configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables"Any suggestions? Thanks

Looks like you don't have XCode or any dev tools installed. You need a C compiler to compile graphicsmagick.

Either way, I'd stay away from compiling from source and use homebrew (http://brew.sh) instead. They will tell you what prerequisites you need. Once you have it set up, installing graphicsmagick is as easy as running

brew install graphicsmagick

Getting closer. I'll retrace my steps in case useful for someone else.

-pasted command in terminal (fyi password is your system password which doesn't appear as you type it)

-got error: You must: brew install git Error: Git is unavailable.

-Finally found good instructions here: http://www.jbrains.ca/training/how-to-install-git/

-this links to https://code.google.com/archive/p/git-osx-installer/

-downloaded, double clicked installer

-closed terminal, ran again 

-typed brew install git

-got message "cannot be installed as a a binary package and must be built from source. To continue, you must install Xcode from:

https://developer.apple.com/xcode/downloads/"</div><div>

This is where it ends. Xcode requires OS X 10.11.4. I have 10.6.8 and don't want to upgrade just for this.

Any suggestions? This is certainly taking a great effort.

XCode was around for 10.6 but I doubt homebrew will work. Either way (homebrew or not) you're going to need XCode because it has the command line utilities you'll need to build stuff from source. There's probably an old version available for download somewhere on the Apple site.

Upgraded to OS 10.11.5 and downloaded XCode

Success after doing the following:

back to terminal:-brew install git"Error: Could not symlink. You can try again using" (see list below of brew links, but first…)

-Searched Homebrew Symlink Error and found: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11237048/homebrew-symlink-error answers:-brew uninstall libevent-sudo chown -R username_on_your_computer /usr/local-brew install memcached try again-brew install graphicsmagick"Warning: graphicsmagick-1.3.24 already installed, it's just not linked" Brew links to try:-brew link libtool-brew link jpeg-brew link libpng-brew link libtiff-brew link freetype-brew link graphicsmagick Success, all links created. Go to folder: GraphicsMagick-1.3.24hit configure Done. Whew.Thanks for the tips.

You don't need to configure GraphicsMagick when doing this via homebrew. You shouldn't have to link all of those packages by hand eitther. The imortant part is your first step -- /usr/local/Cellar should be owned by your user.
